Leading into the 2011 Moth World Championship, CST worked closely with its Moth team sailors to develop a new range of Moth spars for the market. The main aim was to make masts that suit popular sail brands and offer an edge in performance through ideal luff profile match.
The result of hard work including 21 prototype masts is a new range of spars called the HM Elite. These spars effectively replace the very successful HM Club series with changes in both bend profile and overall stiffness.
Our new range of masts now provide two solutions, Elite 1 and Elite 3, these have been specifically designed to suit KA, MSL13 and MSL10 sails.
We suggest using the Elite 1 for KA, MSL13 sails or lighter sailors under 75kg or if sailing in strong wind conditions.
The Elite 3 mast is works particularly well with KA MSL10 sails. This combination was the preferred choice that Nathan used during the Worlds and one of the reasons he experienced boat speed advantage over his competitors.
To compliment the new range of masts CST also introduced a new rectangular boom. Due to better geometry of the rectangular section we have been able to make a weight saving of 350g over the old HM2 series while maintaining the same stiffness.
